Speaking of Mosin rifles....Anybody done any neat mods like this?

About 12 years or so I had an FFL and I also moderated a large well known gun forum....At the time, I bought app. 8 or so various Mosin M-44's from Century for $15 each that were called "u-fix-ems"....In reality, they all looked pretty decent and most were eventually traded for other rifles to C&R holders.

This particular rifle I kept because it had what looked like a new bore. It is the rather uncommon Polish version of the M-44....The only apparent problem that it had was a hairline crack in the forearm which I repaired in 10 minutes.

I sent the bolt off and had it custom modified for better ergonomics. The scope is what was sold for a short time by a company in Russia. It is made identically to a Russian "PU" sniper scope even down to the mount, except it was beefed up and modernized slightly. It was called a "PU hunter", I believe.

I completely redid the furniture in 8 coats of linseed oil. I had a buddy of mine machine the receiver and wood to accept the scope and mount and he boresighted it..I clicked it in at a local rock quarry with 250 yard Stalingrad style panoramic shots which was a load of fun. Even though it was customized, I liked the military style and I avoided going ghetto and ruining the wood or lines of the rifle.

I keep it on my surplus Kroger food shelves that I have in my laundry room right next to the back door within hands reach of the door...Used for coyotes that venture into my lower field.

It's quite effective...

A lot of people use a 22 caliber to hunt coyotes. Imagine the sound of that 7.62 X 54r hitting a coyote! Classic. Months back before the rush Gander Mountain had a sale on M44's and I went thru all of them and luckily got a nice one with a date on it of 1945. Might just try it out on a coyote.
Nice scope mount.

Back when AIM was selling Finn M-39's for 80 $ I ordered a few and ended up with one that strangely had 6 little holes drilled in the receiver. fast forward several years and on one of the gun geek websites I find an add for accumounts and lo and behold they make an exact copy of the russian pem mount and it just happens to fit perfectly on my M-39. So,I now have one of the most accurate mosins ever assembled, with a scope on it. With surplus ammo this rifle produces better groups than my 110 tactical. It is SWEET!:shine:

I still have a couple of the M39's in my safe...One is like brand new.

I remember some of my former forum members would occasionaly get 91/30's with PE mounting holes....I didn't know they made a recreated scope and mount for this rifle....

The M39 is in my top five bolt actions....I have owned a variety of M27's, 28's and 28-30's, but a mint M-39 is a sight to behold...It is the epitome of where MN rifles evolved...

They are sweet rifles, If I had to run out the door and was going to take a bolt action rifle with me that would be the one.

accumount.com I think is what the web site is, they have scope mounts for a lot of milsurps. Very reasonably priced and prompt service. I am not associated with them in any way.

I have a mauser I built from parts that looks like a German sniper but with a match barrel, I got the turret mounts from them as well.

YES! M39 rifles are very nice. If you detail strip the M39, you can see the attention to detail the Finns used to improve trigger pull & bedding of the rifle. They are very nice indeed.

A beautiful machine you've got there. Good job!

I can't understand how anyone can claim the Mosin is "ugly" or "garbage." I've encountered that opinion occasionally. Probably more a statement on its origin than on the firearm itself.

Wow, a bolt action "Mare's Leg"!

I'll bet that one hurts like hell to shoot.

I've just a stock M39 with no scope and can make a 1" group at 100 yards with a high contrast target. It's not the rifle that fails me but my eyes at any greater distance. I do enjoy the stories told of the nicely scoped ones. ShirleyUGeste talked me out of actually scoping my piece.

If I was modifying a M-N I'd have to put a muzzle brake on it... those guns are fireball belchers.

Maybe the shorter M44 varieties, but the full sized 91's and 39's are not really.

So, the guy with the M-N pistol, does anyone know how his wrist is healing?
